Zedge is a popular app for Android devices. It offers the best free wallpaper and ringtones to customize your Android phone.
That said, the popular personalization app ran into issues a few months ago. Google Play Protect started to send a Zedge harmful message warning to the user about the possibility that the app may try to attack other mobile and computer systems.
In this article, we explore how to fix the Zedge harmful message shown by Google Play Protect on your Android device, and if you should continue using the app.
Is the Zedge app harmful?
Last year, Play Protect flagged the Zedge app as harmful. The developers had to remove the app from the Play Store to find the issue.
The developers were not able to find any bugs or malware in the app. The reason for the Play Protect could be due to issues with the app’s security filters.
As of writing this article, Zedge is back on Google Play Store and working without any issues for many Android users.
However, if you continue to see the Zedge harmful message in your Android device, here is how to fix it.
Update the app
- Open Google Play Store.
- Search for and open the Zedge app.
- Tap the Update button if available. Wait for the app to download and apply the updates.
- Once installed, relaunch the Zedge app and check if the error persists.
The error will resolve as soon as you update the app. However, if the issue persists, try reinstalling the app.
Reinstall Zedge
- On your Android device, tap on Settings.
- Open Apps / Application Manager.
- Search for and open the Zedge from the installed apps list.
- Tap on Uninstall and then tap Yes to confirm.
- Once uninstalled, reboot your device.
- Open Google Play Store.
- Search for the Zedge app.
- Tap on Install to download the app.
Zedge is an excellent app if you are into customizing your smartphone. You can download wallpapers, video wallpaper, ringtones, alarm & notification sounds, and more with a simple search.
While there seem to be some bugs that exist within the app, the Zedge harmful issue seems to have resolved after the developers fixed issues with the security filters and released an update.
