ASUS Rolls Out AM5 BIOS Update After BitLocker Lockouts
ASUS has begun deploying BIOS version 2102 to resolve a BitLocker recovery issue affecting its 600- and 800-series AM5 motherboards, according to Wccftech.
The problem surfaced after users installed Beta BIOS version 2101. Many reported that BitLocker requested the 48-digit recovery key on every boot, effectively locking them out of their systems.
ASUS Releases BIOS Update to Fix BitLocker Recovery Loop
Affected systems entered a persistent recovery loop even after users attempted standard troubleshooting steps. Downgrading the BIOS, clearing the TPM, resetting CMOS, and deleting Secure Boot keys often failed to fix the problem.
In several cases, the issue continued despite reflashing firmware or reverting to previous BIOS versions. This led to speculation that Secure Boot logs may have been corrupted during the update process.
ASUS has now officially acknowledged the issue.
BIOS 2102 Includes New AGESA Microcode
The newly released BIOS 2102 includes an AGESA microcode update to version 1.3.0.0a. The update aims to correct how the firmware interacts with TPM and Secure Boot components that can trigger BitLocker.
BitLocker, Microsoft’s built-in full-disk encryption feature in Windows, automatically activates recovery mode when it detects security-related hardware or firmware changes. Modifications involving TPM, Secure Boot, or certain BIOS settings can cause the system to request the recovery key on startup.
However, some users reported that disabling BitLocker before flashing BIOS 2101 did not prevent the repeated recovery prompts.
With BIOS 2102 now rolling out, ASUS expects affected systems to return to normal operation without requiring repeated recovery key entry.
The BIOS fix arrives as ASUS continues expanding its hardware lineup. The company recently launched the ASUS ExpertBook B3 G2 notebooks, and new ASUS Dual Evo RTX 5070 graphics cards were spotted online.
Meanwhile, Ryzen enthusiasts are still waiting for official confirmation after the Ryzen 9 9950X3D V2 appeared in a recent ASUS demo video.
