Windows 11's Latest Beta Update Improves Windows Share & More
The update is rolling out to Insiders under Build 26220.8340
Microsoft has released new Beta Build 26220.8340 for Windows Insiders. It’s worth noting that changes related to Windows Share and Storage are identical to the ones in Experimental Channel Build 26300.8346, which also apply to Insiders in the Dev channel.
Windows Share gets smarter with the latest Beta update
Starting with Windows Share, Microsoft is making the ShareSheet more useful, especially for AAD users. You can now discover and install relevant apps directly within the sharing interface, without jumping to the Microsoft Store. This feature was previously limited to MSA accounts, but is now expanding, which adds more flexibility.
There is also a new level of control here. Users can choose whether they want to see app recommendations at all, thanks to a toggle in the ShareSheet settings. The interface itself now shows a row of suggested apps with “Install” labels, along with a Settings option in the overflow menu to manage the experience.
On the storage side, Microsoft is making a practical tweak. When creating a Dev Drive, you can now specify the size in GB instead of just MB. The same applies when resizing volumes under system storage settings, which should make things more straightforward.
Minor improvements made to Task Scheduler and Task Manager
Alongside these changes, a couple of smaller improvements are rolling out. Task Scheduler will now remember column width adjustments in the task list view across sessions, which should save time for regular users.
Meanwhile, Task Manager is getting a fix related to virtual machines. CPU speed readings on the Performance page should now appear more accurate after resuming from hibernate, instead of showing unusually high values.
Last but not least, Microsoft is also rolling out two Experimental builds (Build 29580.1000 and 28020.1921), which apply to Insiders in the Canary 29000 and 28000 series channels, respectively.
