Windows 11 Experimental (Future Platforms) Build 29648 Improves Security, Removes WMIC & Drag Tray

The Build 29648.1000 is out for Windows 11 Insiders in the Experimental (Future Platforms) channel

Windows 10 Extended Security Update details

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Experimental Build 29648.1000 for the Future Platforms channel. This release focuses on Windows Security, accessibility, and underlying interface fixes.

Windows Security gets a subtle redesign and clearer enterprise information

Windows Security is receiving small interface adjustments in this build. Microsoft says the changes improve alignment with other Windows applications. Enterprise devices using Microsoft Defender for Endpoint will also see related information at the top of Virus & threat protection.

The update removes Windows Management Instrumentation Command-line, or WMIC. Microsoft says this is part of its ongoing deprecation and removal process. Drag Tray is also being removed after Insider feedback. Microsoft says it is continuing to explore improvements before introducing a possible replacement.

Magnifier and app interface issues get fixes, but problems remain

Microsoft has fixed an issue that could prevent Magnifier from launching for some Insiders. Another underlying problem causing unexpected UI shifting in certain apps has also been addressed. The build still carries two notable known issues. Some Insiders may experience a mouse cursor that repeatedly blinks.

Others may be unable to update to the latest builds. Microsoft says those users can encounter error 0x80070005 during the update process. Moreover, the company expects both issues to be addressed in the next flight if everything goes as planned
