Microsoft Teams Gets 20% Faster With New Efficiency Mode
Microsoft has announced new performance improvements for Teams across Windows, macOS, and Android, including faster startup times, better responsiveness, and lower resource consumption.
According to Microsoft’s latest performance report, the new Efficiency mode can improve Teams startup times by 20% on devices with limited hardware resources. Meanwhile, the Android app has become 40% more responsive over the past year.
Teams Efficiency mode speeds up startup on older PCs
Microsoft’s new Efficiency mode targets devices with older processors and 8GB of RAM or less, automatically adjusting Teams to reduce its hardware demands.
The company says the feature delivers 20% faster startup times while optimizing resource usage during meetings. It automatically adjusts camera resolution to reduce CPU load and prioritizes audio processing to maintain call quality.
Efficiency mode activates automatically on eligible devices, although users can manually disable it.
These changes aim to make Teams run more smoothly on older Windows PCs and other resource-constrained systems without requiring hardware upgrades.
Microsoft Teams is now 40% more responsive on Android
Microsoft has also reported significant performance gains for Teams on Android, following a series of optimizations targeting memory management, interface rendering, and background operations.
The company introduced an App Responsiveness Index (ARI) to measure performance problems and identify areas that need improvement.
Over the past year, Microsoft achieved a 40% improvement in Android app responsiveness, while reducing the unresponsiveness rate to just 0.12%, its lowest recorded level.
Other improvements include a 23% reduction in time spent on blocking garbage collection and 17% faster image thumbnail loading.
Microsoft achieved these gains by addressing memory inefficiencies, reducing operations that block the main thread, and improving interface layouts.
The changes should help Android users navigate conversations, load shared images, and switch between Teams features with fewer delays and freezes.
Microsoft promises further Teams optimizations
Microsoft says it will continue improving Teams performance across Windows, macOS, and Android, focusing on responsiveness, resource efficiency, and faster content loading.
The company plans to expand its optimizations gradually while using performance measurements and user feedback to identify additional issues.
The performance improvements come as Microsoft continues making other changes to Teams. The company recently confirmed that it will remove Copilot Studio from Teams in 2027 and announced plans to introduce impersonation protection to strengthen security across the platform.
