Creating and removing or deleting a profile in Windows 10 is easy. It allows the users to give access to other users on the same computer by restricting their access and also removing the access when required. However, at times when trying to delete a profile, the profile may not be deleted completely and leave some folders, etc.
One user shared his problem with the Windows 10 profile on Microsoft Answers.
I’ve followed Method three of the MS help article 947215. I’ve gotten to the system properties user profile dialog box. on it I see the profile that I want to delete but the delete button is grayed out…
Follow the steps below to delete the Windows 10 profile for good.
How do I delete a user profile in Windows 10?
1. Remove the User Profile As Administrator
To remove any user profile, you need administrator access. Another thing to note here is that you cannot remove the user profile you are logged in with. So, if you want to remove one of your primary profile, you need to create a different profile with administrator rights and then try to remove the corrupted profile.
Login to your PC with the administrator account. Make sure the account you are trying to remove is not the one you are logged in with.
Press Windows Key + R to open Run.
Type netplwiz and press OK to open the User Account window.
Under user for this computer section, you can check all the user profiles in the system.
Select the user profile you want to remove and click on Remove.
You should see “Are you sure you want to remove the select profile” window click Yes.
Now right-click on the corrupted profile and select Delete.
Press Windows Key + R to open Run.
Type regedit and press OK to open the Registry Editor.
In the Registry Editor navigate to the following location. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList.
Under the Profile List, you will see several entries. Click on each entry and check the ProfileImagePath data. If it matches with the corrupt user profile then delete it.
Right-click on the profile and select Delete.
3. Delete User Profile from System Properties
Press Windows Key + R.
Type sysdm.cpl and press OK to open System Properties.
Go to the Advanced tab.
Click the Settings button under the User Profile section.
Now select the user profile that you want to delete and click on Delete.
