AMD Technical Preview Driver for Fluid Motion Frames 2, which greatly improves frame rates, is now available

AMD has released a technical preview driver for its Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) technology, which aims to boost frame rates and smoothness in games.
As the company mentioned in its blog, the new driver includes AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2, a set of fresh features that enhance the visuals and performance of games using AFMF.
Also, AMD stated they have enhanced game quality and gameplay smoothness with AFMF 2. For AFMF 2, there are two fresh modes. The first is Search Mode with an automatic setting that “cuts back on a fallback for better AFMF smoothness” for games running in 1440p resolution and above; you can switch it to the “Standard” setting if playing at 1080p resolution.
The next mode is Performance Mode. It aims to reduce the AFMF 2 overhead for better frame rates on more devices. Many games have also seen a reduction in latency thanks to AFMF 2, such as Cyberpunk 2077, which experienced less delay by 28 percent, and Counter-Strike 2, where the latency was cut down by 12 percent.
The fresh edition also backs up games that rely on Vulkan and OpenGL. For individuals who wish to control game frame rates to a specific degree, AFMF 2 includes what the firm refers to as AMD Radeon Chill.
The company claims that enabling Radeon Chill after enabling AFMF 2 will automatically set the native FPS cap to be half of your AMD FreeSync monitor’s maximum refresh rate. So, after the AFMF 2 frame generation is used, Radeon Chill will ensure that FPS doesn’t exceed the maximum refresh rate.
This is important because exceeding this limit can result in screen tearing and lower image quality. You can get the technical preview driver from here. AMD warns that this is a technical preview, so it might have bugs that could impact your gaming experience.
AMD plans to officially release AFMF 2 something in the fourth quarter of 2024.
In other news, the company also teased the new FSR 3.1, which will come later this year and make video games look hyper-real on screen.
