While not as popular as its Football counterpart, FIFA 20, Madden NFL 20 is another sports title from EA with an impressive number of fans.
This American football-themed game series has been in the gaming industry for some time and is still going strong.
However, just like FIFA 20, Madden NFL 20 has its fair share of bugs and issues. Thankfully, the most common among them have known solutions.
Which are the most common Madden NFL 20 issues?
1. Players are experiencing extremely slow downloads
Try checking your Internet connection for problems.
Try restarting your console or PC and resume downloading.
Pause the download for a few seconds, and resume it:
- On Xbox One, go to Games & Apps
- Choose the Queue and then on Madden 20
- Press the three lines button on your controller and choose pause installation.
2. Players are having installation problems
Try restarting your console or PC and resume the installation.
Make sure you have enough storage space for Madden NFL 20.
- For PC:
- Press Windows
- Type in This PC
- Right-click on the partition where you want to install Madden NFL 20
- Check how much free disk space you have
- For Xbox:
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
- Select System
- Go to Settings
- Select System
- View Storage.
Try clearing your system cache (beware that this will delete any game saves unless synced with the cloud).
- For Xbox:
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
- Select System
- Go to Settings
- Select System
- View Storage.
- Press Clear local saved games
- Once that is finished, proceed as follows:
- Once finished, select Settings
- Choose All Settings
- Go to Network
- Choose Network Settings
- Select Go offline
- Restart the Xbox
3. Players have issues with MUT 20
Some players see an error message that looks something like this when finishing MUT challenges:
If you see it, try to exit the challenges and enter the main Ultimate Team menu.
If that doesn’t fix it and you consistently see the error message, check your Internet connection.
4. Players are reporting missing Madden bonus items
Make sure you redeemed the code associated with the bonus item.
Ensure you don’t share the game since only the first player gets the bonus.
One method worked when similar issues happened in Madden 19:
- Turn the Xbox entirely off.
- Unplug the power cable for 2-3 minutes.
- Plug the cable in, turn the Xbox on, and open Madden 20.
- Go to MUT, to Store and Claim Packs even if it says 0.
5. PC users are having general audio and video problems
Disable the Origin overlay during the game while running Madden 20.
Disable full-screen optimizations:
- Right-click the Madden 20 icon on your Desktop or Start Menu
- Select Properties
- Click Compatibilities
- Check Disable Fullscreen optimizations
A common consensus for solving most video issues is to run the Madden 20 process in real-time in Task Manager and using DirectX 11.
Besides that, you can as well try to reinstall or update video and audio drivers using specialized software, such as PC HelpSoft Driver Updater.
6. Fix common lag and connection issues
Try restarting your console, router, and modem, as this can solve most of the issues.
If that doesn’t help, consider opening ports on your network.

7. Fix common controller mapping issues
Plenty of users are running into controller mapping issues. One solution would be to open origin and perform a game repair.
In case you encountered the Play Trial Error while playing Madden 24, we have a detailed guide to fix the issue.
If that doesn’t work either, all you can do is wait for a new patch to fix the problem.
Keep note that in the case of FIFA 20, EA stated that they only support Xbox controllers on PC.
