Sometimes you may encounter an ERROR_IMAGE_NOT_AT_BASE error on your PC. While this error can create problems, in today’s guide we’re going to show you how to fix it.

How can I fix ERROR_IMAGE_NOT_AT_BASE?

Before trying anything else, try restarting your PC as that can sometimes help.

1. Update Windows and your drivers

  1. Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app.
  2. Navigate to Windows Update and click on Check for updates.

  3. Wait while Windows downloads the available updates.

Once the system is updated, go ahead and update drivers on Windows 11. This will ensure there are no conflicts due to outdated system or drivers.

2. Use Event Viewer

  1. Press the Windows key + X and select Event Viewer.
  2. Next, navigate to Windows Logs and select Application or System.

  3. Look for any events that have occurred before the error and try to fix them on your own.

3. Reinstall the affected application

  1. Open the Settings app go to Apps and then Installed apps.

  2. Locate the application that is giving you the error, click on the three dots next to it and choose Uninstall.

  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the process.
  4. Once the application is removed, install it again.

4. Repair your system files

  1. Press the Windows key + S and type cmd. Choose Run as administrator.
  2. Run the following: sfc /scannow
    sfc scan to fix ERROR_DEVICE_ENUMERATION_ERROR
  3. Once the scan is finished, check if the issue is gone.
  4. If not run the DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    dism restorehealth

5. Other tips to try

  1. Download Process Explorer.
  2. Use the software to inspect the faulty process and check the loaded DLLs.
  3. If a third-party DLL is causing the issue, try reinstalling it.
  4. If the issue is still there, start Command Prompt as administrator and run bcdedit /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
  5. This command will make your system vulnerable, so use it just for testing, and enable this feature once done.

ERROR_IMAGE_NOT_AT_BASE can also be recognized by the following message: 700 (0x2BC) {Image Relocated} An image file could not be mapped at the address specified in the image file. Local fixups must be performed on this image.

In most cases, this is caused by file corruption, so reinstalling the application and repairing the system files should help.
