Fable Still Aiming for Autumn 2026 Release Despite GTA 6-Fueled Delay Rumors
The studio has reaffirmed the launch window via a post on X from the Fable account
Over the weekend, there were plenty of reports suggesting that Playground Games has internally delayed Fable due to GTA 6. The rumor originally stemmed from a post by journalist Jeff Grubb, who said that the studio is “worried” about GTA 6’s launch window. That raised concerns among fans that Fable could slip into late 2026, or even 2027, to avoid clash with the most anticipated game of the year.
Playground Games appears to have pushed back on Fable delay rumors linked to GTA 6
Now, it seems the studio has just shot down those rumors around Fable and has confirmed the game is still on track for an Autumn 2026 release. Replying to a fan post on X, the official Fable account wrote, “Excited to welcome you back to Albion in Autumn 2026!”
Remember, a report from earlier this year hinted that Microsoft is moving the release of Halo and other big games to avoid the GTA 6 craze. However, the post from the studio earlier today appears to firmly push back against delay speculation.
Speaking of timing, that confirmation feels deliberate, too. It suggests confidence not just in a 2026 launch, but specifically the autumn window, rather than a late-year shift. To catch you up, the Fall/Autumn release window for Fable was announced at the January Xbox Developer Direct, where the studio confirmed that it’ll be packed with classic fantasy elements with a more modern open-world approach.
That said, it’s unclear how firm this window remains if GTA 6 lands close by. Studios have changed plans late in the cycle before, even after public reassurances. For now, it seems Fable is still coming this autumn. But if GTA 6 locks in a similar window, will Microsoft hold its ground or quietly shift strategy later?
Speaking of games, let’s not forget that Microsoft has announced yet another Xbox showcase on April 16 for the first look at Metro 2039.
