steam next-gen xbox

Remember when Phil Spencer said he wanted Xbox to support other stores like Epic and Steam? That idea might finally be turning into something real. Microsoft may soon integrate Xbox and Steam, according to a leak from a known industry insider and YouTuber eXtas1s.

The insider claims Microsoft has already been testing to bring Steam to Xbox consoles by integrating it within the Microsoft Store. If the rumor turns out to be true, Xbox Series X and S owners could eventually access Steam’s massive game library right from their consoles.

Microsoft is reportedly testing Steam integration within the Microsoft Store

In a new video (Spanish), eXtas1s said that Microsoft has recently added the Steam app to its internal support software. It’s currently labeled Steam Developer Beta, and is only accessible to Microsoft employees and close collaborators.

Xbox + Steam are heading into the next generation, but steps are already being taken as Microsoft has just added the Steam application to the support software for its devices, appearing under the name of Steam Developer Beta.

Per the tipster’s word, Microsoft is all set to make Xbox and Steam work together more seamlessly.

The insider adds that Microsoft aims to “facilitate coexistence and cooperation between its Xbox ecosystem and the gigantic PC platform that is Steam.” He continues, “I’ve been telling you that the next generation of Xbox is going to be more like a PC than a console. Everything is going to be developed around PC environments.

According to eXtas1s, internal testing has already started. If true, we could see early results of this Steam integration later this year. Microsoft hasn’t confirmed any of this, and neither has Valve.

But for Xbox fans, especially those who’ve hoped for broader access to PC games, it’s some good news—even if we have to wait and see. All that said, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard this rumor. Last year, a similar rumor circulated online, raising a few eyebrows.
