Microsoft Brings RSAT Tools to Windows 11 on Arm Devices

As Neowin writes, Microsoft has expanded Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) support to Windows 11 on Arm devices, bringing several key enterprise management tools to Arm-based PCs.

RSAT allows IT administrators to remotely manage Windows Server roles and features from a Windows client device without directly accessing the server. Until now, the tools were only available on x64 versions of Windows 11, meaning administrators using Arm devices had to rely on alternative solutions such as Windows Admin Center or a separate x64 system.

With the March Patch Tuesday update, Microsoft has added native support for five RSAT components on Windows 11 running on Arm processors.

Key RSAT tools now available on Windows 11 on Arm

The newly supported tools focus on common enterprise administration tasks, particularly for Active Directory and network infrastructure management.

Administrators can now use Active Directory Domain Services and AD LDS tools to manage domain users, directory services, and related infrastructure. Microsoft has also added Active Directory Certificate Services tools, which allow IT teams to manage certificate services and public key infrastructure environments.

Group Policy Management Console (GPMC) is another addition. This tool enables administrators to create and manage Group Policy Objects within Active Directory environments, which is essential for configuring system policies across enterprise networks.

Network administration capabilities are also expanded. DNS Server Tools allow administrators to configure and monitor DNS servers using DNS Manager and related command-line utilities. DHCP Server Tools provide controls for managing DHCP servers and IP address allocation scopes across corporate networks.

How RSAT is installed on different Windows 11 versions

RSAT installation methods vary depending on the Windows 11 version in use.

On Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2, RSAT is available as an optional component that administrators can enable through the Windows Features interface.

On the upcoming Windows 11 26H1 release, RSAT is delivered as a Feature on Demand package. Administrators can install it by navigating to Settings, selecting System, opening Optional Features, and then choosing Add an optional feature.

This approach allows IT departments to install only the specific administration tools they need without deploying the entire RSAT suite.

Arm support may boost enterprise adoption

Native RSAT support removes one of the remaining limitations of Windows 11 on Arm in enterprise environments.

Arm-based Windows devices have improved significantly in recent years, particularly with the introduction of new processors designed for efficient performance and long battery life. However, the lack of certain enterprise management tools previously limited adoption in corporate environments.

By adding RSAT support, Microsoft is making Arm-based Windows PCs more viable for IT administrators and organizations that rely heavily on Windows Server infrastructure.

In other Windows news, the KB5079387 update has also arrived in the Release Preview Channel, bringing improvements to Settings, pen input, and Smart App Control.
