Microsoft is trying to manage expectations ahead of Build 2026 and Computex, confirming that users should not expect a Windows 12 announcement next week.

Microsoft Focuses on AI PCs and Developers

Rumors about a possible new Windows version started circulating after Microsoft and PC makers heavily teased AI PCs and next-generation hardware.

However, Windows and Devices chief Pavan Davuluri recently clarified that Build 2026 will focus on developers, AI experiences, and new hardware instead of a brand-new operating system.

“A New Era of PC” Teaser

The official Windows account also teased “a new era of PC” and shared coordinates pointing to the Taipei Music Center in Taiwan, fueling speculation around Computex announcements. The teaser now appears to be tied to upcoming hardware reveals rather than Windows 12.

Instead of replacing Windows 11, Microsoft seems more focused on refining the current operating system. The company has recently rolled out several new Insider builds, including experimental releases for Windows 26H1, a version featuring a smaller Start menu and better Search, a new Canary build that fixes Microsoft account sign-in issues, and an updated Windows 11 Beta build with new loading animations and improved Search.

Microsoft has also continued working on Windows 11 performance, Start menu customization, taskbar improvements, Search upgrades, and AI-powered features.

For now, Build 2026 is expected to focus on AI PCs, developer tools, and Windows 11 improvements rather than a next-generation Windows release.
