Microsoft Fixes Outlook Crash Caused by Copilot Email Drafts
Microsoft is fixing a classic Outlook bug that caused the app to crash when users tried to draft emails with Copilot.
The issue appeared when users pressed Alt + I or clicked the Copilot pencil icon inside the email body. After users entered a prompt, Copilot displayed the “Writing your email” message, froze, and then closed Outlook.
Some affected users said Outlook reopened automatically after the crash. The problem appeared limited to Outlook, as Copilot continued to work normally in other Office apps.
Microsoft 365 Update Fixes the Outlook Copilot Crash
Microsoft has addressed the issue in the latest Microsoft 365 update.
The changelog confirms a fix for a bug that caused Outlook to close unexpectedly when users worked with Copilot’s Compose chat feature. Users affected by the crash should update Outlook to the latest version to apply the fix.
Microsoft Also Fixes Copilot Accessibility Issue
The same update also fixes an accessibility issue in Outlook.
Microsoft says the Help me write button did not display correctly when users enabled high contrast mode. The latest update corrects that visual problem, making the Copilot writing feature easier to access for affected users.
Outlook Copilot Still Needs Stability Improvements
These fixes are small, but they show Microsoft is still working to stabilize Copilot inside Outlook.
This is not the only recent Outlook Copilot issue Microsoft has addressed. The company also recently fixed a problem where the Copilot button disappeared in Outlook.
Microsoft is also improving the broader Outlook experience. The new Outlook has finally received the Quick Parts feature, and Microsoft is expected to add rule-based auto replies in the future.
