Microsoft Temporarily Halts Roll Out of Tabbed Folders in File Explorer With KB5070303

The update also pauses rollout of administrator protection feature

With Windows 11 version 25H2 Preview Build 26220.7262 (KB5070303), Microsoft has rolled out a bunch of new features for Insiders in Dev and Beta Channels.

For example, Narrator and Magnifier have got HD voice support, with the former also getting math reading ability in Microsoft Word. But, that’s not all. Microsoft has also added a dedicated toggle for enabling AI components and gave the context menu for Click to Do a redesign. Well, File Explorer is also getting some handy upgrades with this update.

Microsoft has reconfiguried the system that powers AI Actions in File Explorer. During this transition, Insiders may temporarily lose image actions and Copilot summary actions. The company says the features will return in a phased rollout. Not to forget, the tabbed-folder experiment is also paused. Newly opened folders will return to windowed mode until the feature is fixed.

Additionally, Microsoft is temporarily turning off Image Object Selection in Dev and Beta channels. The company plans to refine the feature before relaunching it.

Moving on, Tutorial mode now includes a new Launch Tutorial button and updated instructions. Teaching Tips have smoother transitions and clearer guidance for first-time users.

For input devices, haptic pens get new tactile feedback. Users will feel subtle vibrations when hovering over close buttons or snapping windows. Last but not least, Microsoft has also paused the rollout of Administrator Protection. Insiders will not see the feature until adjustments are completed.
