xbox app compact mode new features

It’s no secret that the handheld PC gaming market is exploding, and Microsoft wants to take a piece of the action.

To achieve this, the company is testing new features in Compact Mode for the Xbox app, so without further ado, let’s see what’s coming.

Microsoft is testing a new way to launch games in Compact Mode

As XDA Developers writes, the new Compact Mode features are available for testing, and we wrote about Jump back in and the new Friends panel not that long ago.

The new Jump back in feature shows you nine recently played games on the main page, allowing you to quickly launch any of them.

This is rather useful, especially if you’re multitasking and it’s perfect if you want to quickly switch between games.

Of course, launching games is just as simple, and you can do it by pressing the Menu button. We have to mention that this feature only works with games that are obtained from the Xbox app or Microsoft Store.

To make matters worse, Jump back in won’t even show games from Steam or from other platforms, which limits its functionality.

That might change if Steam comes to next-gen Xbox, but currently, this is just a rumor. Speaking of which, the next Xbox console might be a reference device, so having Steam on it doesn’t seem impossible.
