NVIDIA May Cut RTX 50 GPU Supply to China by Up to 40%
Earlier speculation suggested that China had approved DeepSeek to purchase NVIDIA H200 AI accelerators, but new reports now point in the opposite direction for consumer GPUs. As VideoCardz reports, recent posts from Board Channels discussing RTX 50-series prioritization closely align with current market behavior.
New rumors point to significant RTX 50 shipment cuts for China
NVIDIA has publicly denied intentionally limiting shipments of specific RTX 50 models and maintains that all SKUs continue to ship. Despite that stance, several RTX 50-series GPUs now sell well above MSRP, suggesting a tighter real-world supply than official statements imply.
A December rumor from Board Channels claimed NVIDIA planned to cut RTX 50 GPU supply by 30–40 percent. A newer post now alleges that overall GPU supply to mainland China could drop by roughly 30 percent compared to a normal quarter. The information reportedly comes from upstream NVIDIA sources and add-in board partners.
The same report claims Chinese AIB brands and distributors have been advised to manage inventory conservatively, avoid aggressive discounting, and keep pricing aligned. That guidance implies further upward price pressure if supply tightens and competitive price cuts are avoided. The strategy appears specific to China, with no indication of similar supply adjustments in North America or Europe.
China often acts as an early indicator for broader GPU market trends, since many graphics card assembly lines operate there. Changes in regional supply behavior frequently surface later in global pricing and availability.
NVIDIA has acknowledged broader market constraints, stating that demand for GeForce RTX GPUs remains strong while memory supply continues to face limitations. The company says it is working with suppliers to increase memory availability. While NVIDIA has not announced official price increases, RTX 5070 Ti prices have already risen in the U.S., reflecting ongoing supply pressure.
In related news, NVIDIA has suggested that TSMC may need to double chip manufacturing capacity to meet growing AI and GPU demand, underscoring how stretched the global semiconductor supply chain has become.
