Microsoft OneDrive Event has finally unveiled the hotly-anticipated AI capabilities coming to OneDrive.

We all know the Redmond-based tech giant has been integrating AI into all of its products. Just last week, Windows Copilot finally arrived in Windows 11, after months of teasing it and previewing it in the Windows Insider Program.

Plus, over the summer, Microsoft announced and released Bing Chat Enterprise, and numerous other AI capabilities to apps such as Microsoft Teams, Edge, and others.

It’s time for OneDrive, Microsoft’s top cloud service, to get the AI treatment, and the company announced that all kinds of AI capabilities are coming to the service, including new search, sharing, and information queries across all of the OneDrive files.

OneDrive AI: All the capabilities

OneDrive 3.0 – The new-redesigned OneDrive Home

The new OneDrive Home brings in new ways to manage files and share them across all the other Microsoft 365 apps. These are all the new sections coming to OneDrive, according to Microsoft.

  • Simplified sharing

Copilot in OneDrive

Copilot is coming to OneDrive, as well. The AI tool will be available for all customers who have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, starting in December.

Users will be able to use it to ask open-ended questions related to an individual file or get a summary of the content. And users will be able to do it no matter where the file is located across the Microsoft 365 apps. onedrive ai

This means that Copilot in OneDrive can become the search engine for all the files shared across all the apps.

AI-enhanced improved search in OneDrive

Search for people and images with natural languages. Microsoft will introduce a new feature that will let users search or browse photos based on people in them. With your permission, OneDrive can find photos based on the names you give to the people in your photos.

Plus, with natural languages, you can ask OneDrive to find specific places, settings, objects, and people all in one search.

Microsoft plans to roll out the AI search features to consumers, in a limited preview, beginning October 2023 on OneDrive for Web and on the OneDrive Mobile app. The Redmond-based tech giant will release the improved search to public preview early in 2024.
