OpenAI Brings Codex to ChatGPT Mobile App
OpenAI has just baked Codex directly into the ChatGPT mobile app, which expands access to ongoing development work beyond the desktop. The feature is now rolling out in preview on iOS and Android across all plans. The announcement comes just days after GitHub announced the ability to create repos directly from the mobile app.
As for Codex, the update allows users to connect their phone to computer where Codex is already running, including remote environments. From there, users can review outputs, approve actions, and track progress in real time. Logs, diffs, test results, and screenshots are all synced as work continues in the background.
OpenAI says the idea is to support a more continuous workflow, especially as agent-style tools take on longer-running tasks. With Codex now available in your pocket, it is easier to step in when needed, give direction, or adjust the task while Codex keeps working.
Codex in mobile also supports multiple active threads, meaning users can switch between different tasks without breaking context. The system keeps files and permissions on the host machine, while updates are streamed back to the app.
Besides mobile access, OpenAI has expanded enterprise features through Remote SSH support, allowing Codex to connect directly into managed development environments. This makes it possible for teams to run workflows across secured systems while still managing them from ChatGPT on mobile.
The rollout also includes new tools like programmatic access tokens for automation and hooks for customizing how Codex behaves inside projects. Moreover, enterprise users also get additional compliance options, including HIPAA support in local setups.
