Paint 3D is an app developed by Microsoft and was introduced with Windows 10 Creators Update. With this program, you can combine 2D and 3D tools to create various graphic models.
Paint 3D can be used by anyone. Unlike other paint and image editing programs, it is simple to use, yet powerful when it comes to creating graphic designs.
So, you don’t need any experience and you don’t need to install the program if you have Windows 10 on your computer.
You can say that Paint 3D is an updated version of Paint, but this is an oversimplification. The new app looks almost entirely different. Also, the new features in which you can create and edit 3D objects make Paint 3D a powerful tool on its own.
How to use Paint 3D?
Like we said before, Paint 3D is for everyone. So, 3D modeling is now something that even a person without any experience on the matter can do.
Of course, a free 3D modeling app should be simple and easy to use by an average Windows 10 user.
With Paint 3D, you can rotate objects and apply 2D objects to your 3D models. Also, the objects can be adjusted in all three dimensions of space. Even the canvas can be moved.
Moreover, the 3D text is available, as well as the 2D text.
In Paint 3D, you have great customization tools, such as a pencil, marker, pen, and crayon.
Microsoft made available a long series of tutorials and information about Paint 3D. So, you don’t need to worry about not knowing what to do with this app. It is a good program to start 3D modeling before you try a more complex tool.
Paint 3D downsides
Microsoft promoted Paint 3D as being a user-friendly tool. Still, many users don’t agree with this. The tutorials have missing steps that make them ambiguous and the lack of some basic features are well known.
For example, you can’t edit the text in Paint 3D. You can only design the font. So, you need another app like Word to edit the text before you import it in Paint 3D, which is, of course, not so user-friendly.
Also, you can’t blur images. This is a really simple feature to include, but in Paint 3D, it is nowhere to be found.
Another annoying issue is that you cannot crop circular images. Well, you can, as this guide shows you, but there is no direct way to do that.
So, it is easy to understand why many users who want to try their hand in 3D modeling are avoiding Paint 3D.
