Realtek Semiconductor Corp. , a fabless IC design house situated in the Hsinchu Science Park, Hsinchu, Taiwan, was founded in October 1987, and subsequently approved as a listed company on the Taiwan Stock Exchange in 1998. Realtek entered into this market from 2009, when HD media players becomes very popular.
The 1xx3 models are the first series and they were sold at a very competitive price Than comparable Realtek’s competitors such as Sigma media players.
Three major versions of this chipset were produced by Realtek with some minor variants.
Using One of these chipset version, 1073 , the 1073 players were built on a common SDK and they had similarity i performance and interface.
Main players from this period were the original Xtreamer, ACRyan PlayOn, the Asus O!PlayHD, and the Mede8er MED500X.
The successors of the 1703 series are series 1xx5, that were released in early 2011 and the next generation of its chipsets, the 1xx6 series 1186,were released in early October 2011.
