Gamers on the Rockstar Games platform are getting the dreaded error code 7002.1 when they try to launch specific games on the platform or even play offline.
Another peculiar trigger is a significant group who purchased games during a sale are also unable to launch these specific games. The issue could be a server-side error, an outdated, missing or faulty sound card or even conflicting third-party audio-enhancing software.
How do I fix the Rockstar error code 7002.1?
1. Delete the social club folder and refresh your profile
- Press Windows +E to open the Windows File Explorer.
- Go to the Documents folder, open the Rockstar Games folder.
- Select the Social Club and click the Delete button.
- Press the Windows key, type Rockstar Games Launcher, and click Open.
- Click Settings and go to Account Information.
- Locate the Delete local profile and click Delete.
- Close the launcher and open it again then sign in again and check if the error 7002.1 persists.
If the error code 7002.1 on Rockstar occurs when you try to play the game offline, the issue could be authentication and the social club folder may have some corrupt files. Deleting the folder allows them to be recreated the next time you sign in online and relaunch the game.
Keep in mind that the social club folder has its own issues so if the Rockstar Launcher fails to start, you may have to run the compatibility troubleshooter.
2. Run the game as an administrator
- Press the Windows key + S keyboard shortcut to open the search tool. Enter the problematic game as the search keyword. Right-click it and select Open file location.
- Next, right-click the EXE file and select Properties.
- Click the Compatibility tab then select the Run this program as administrator setting.
- Click the Apply option and press OK to exit the window.
It is possible that your Windows security settings are too stringent so it could be your firewall blocking you from launching the game or you have insufficient administrative privileges to launch the game.
3. Verify game files
- Press the Windows key, type steam or in the search box, and click Open.
- Go to Library, right-click the game, then select Properties from the context menu.
- From the left pane, click Installed files, then click Verify Integrity of Game Files.
- The scan will start, and all the missing or damaged game files will be replaced with healthy files.
4. Update audio driversÂ
- Hit the Windows key, type Device Manager in the search bar, and click Open.
- Navigate to Sound, video, and game controllers to expand, right-click on your audio device, and select Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart your PC and try reconnecting.
5. Change your IP address
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager app.
- Go to the Processes tab, select Rockstar launcher, and click End task.
- Press Windows +
R
to open the Run box. - Type ncpa.cpl and click OK to open the Network Connections.
- Right-click the connection and click Properties.
- Locate Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4), select it, and click the Properties button.
- Select Use the following DNS server addresses. Now for the Preferred DNS server, type 8.8.8.8.
- Alternate DNS server, type 8.8.4.4.
- Click OK, then click Close.
It is possible that the Rockstar servers may have blacklisted your IP address so try switching to a different connection if available or changing your IP address. This can also resolve the error code 6000.87.
6. Disable audio enhancements
- Press the Win + R keys to open the Run dialog. Type mmsys.cpl and hit Enter to open the Sound dialog.
- In the window pop-up, right-click on your audio device, and select Properties.
- Next, in the Properties dialog, go to the Enhancements tab, and check the box next to Disable all enhancements. Press Apply and OK.
While audio enhancements can boost your sound, sometimes they interfere with the audio signal and can prevent your game from recognizing your audio device.
7. Perform a clean boot
- Hit the Windows key, type msconfig, and open System Configuration.
- Switch to the Services tab and select Hide all Microsoft services.
- Click on the Disable all button, then hit the Apply button to save the changes.
- Go back and click on the Startup tab, select Open Task Manager then click OK.
- In the Startup tab of the Task Manager, Disable all the Enabled startup items.
- Close Task Manager and restart your PC.
A clean boot can help you start up your system with only the critical services and programs running so that you can isolate the issue and figure out whether there’s a third-party app causing conflicts.
Other troubleshooting methods include reinstalling the problematic games so try it as a last resort and see if it fixes the error code 7002.1.
Although these games may have isolated issues, sometimes it has nothing to do with the games; it’s just that the Rockstar Games launcher is not working. You can always contact Rockstar support for further assistance if you’ve hit a dead end.
