SharePoint Gets Major AI-Focused Upgrade Next Month
Not long ago, SharePoint made headlines after being abused in phishing attacks, though Microsoft has since addressed those issues. The company also recently confirmed the retirement of certain SharePoint Online Business plans.
Now, according to Neowin, Microsoft is shifting focus toward innovation, announcing a major “reimagined” SharePoint experience on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, with a preview set for next month and general availability expected in April 2026.
Microsoft Announces Reimagined SharePoint Experience
Microsoft has confirmed a major overhaul of SharePoint, focusing on clarity, usability, and core collaboration features. The redesign targets knowledge discovery, content publishing, and intranet creation.
The company positions this revamp as a foundation for future AI-assisted content creation inside SharePoint.
Cleaner UX and Unified Design Language
The refreshed experience introduces a new information architecture and a more cohesive design language. Microsoft wants to deliver a cleaner, more consistent interface across all SharePoint surfaces.
This move builds on recent UX upgrades, including site modernization updates announced in August 2025 that improved branding customization and layout flexibility.
AI Foundation Built Into SharePoint
Microsoft has steadily expanded AI features across Microsoft 365. In August 2025, the company introduced AI-powered Sections within SharePoint to help users generate and organize content faster.
The new “reimagined” SharePoint experience aims to strengthen that AI foundation, paving the way for smarter content creation and knowledge surfacing.
Preview and Rollout Timeline
The new SharePoint experience will enter preview next month for Worldwide, GCC, GCC High, and DoD customers.
If deployment progresses as planned, Microsoft expects general availability in April 2026.
SharePoint is not the only Microsoft 365 service evolving. Microsoft Teams is also preparing to introduce Express Voice Enrollment in April, signaling a broader push toward AI-enhanced collaboration tools across the ecosystem.
