If you’re a Skype newbie and get the Skype number is no longer available message when you try to sign up, that ship has sailed and you’ll have to get with the current program.

For a long time, Skype has had a number attached to one’s account that was used in purchasing credits that were great for pay-as-you-go customers. However, Microsoft sunset the feature in December 2024 in favour of subscriptions so all new users will just have to pick a subscription to make calls.

Existing clients with a Skype number will continue with their existing credits but soon, all users will be rolled over to the subscription service.

What can I do if my Skype number is no longer available?

Subscribe to Skype monthly calls

  1. Navigate to the Skype website and select a subscription.
  2. Type in the country where you want to make calls to and Skype will recommend a subscription tailored to your needs.
  3. You can then start calling on mobile phones and landlines. Remember Skype to Skype calls are free.
