Spotify is the industry leader when it comes to music streaming, however, many users encountered Something went wrong error while using Spotify. This error occurs when the user tries to play a playlist, search for an artist, etc. If you are facing a similar error, here are a couple of solutions to fix this Spotify error on Windows computers.

How can I fix Something went wrong Spotify error?

  1. Login and logout
  2. Check your VPN
  3. Remove offline devices
  4. Complete the process in Private Session
  5. Check Family accounts billing address
  6. Clear browser cache
  7. Update or reinstall Spotify

1. Login and logout

Another quick fix for Something went wrong Spotify error can be a simple login and log out. A fresh login should keep your account in sync with the server.

  1. Launch Spotify, click on your Profile and select Log Out.

If you are using VPN on your computer to connect to the network, Spotify may encounter Something went wrong error.

If the region information set up on your account doesn’t match the region you are accessing Spotify from, you have difficulty login in as well.

Spotify Premium offers a Family plan where the user can add their family members to a single problem. While this is a very convenient feature in terms of billing and account sharing, it can cause an error if the members of the Family plan don’t have the same billing address.

So, go to your Account Settings and make sure each family member has an identical billing address with the correct region set up to fix the error.


6. Clear browser cache

If you are using Spotify web player, clearing your browser cache may resolve Something went wrong error. Modern browsers store recently visited web pages in the cache with other data. A bad cache can create a problem with services like Spotify. You can fix the issue by clearing the cache from the browser.

For Chrome:

  1. Click Menu > Settings.
  2. Scroll down and click on Advanced.

  4. Select a Time Range, select Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files option.
  5. Click on Clear Data button to clear the cache.
  6. Now try to login to Spotify account, and you should be able to log in and perform a search without any errors.

7. Update or reinstall Spotify

If the error is a widespread issue, Spotify probably will release a patch for the problem. Open the Windows Store app and check for any pending update.

  1. Download the update and reboot your system. Check for any improvements.
  2. If updating the app don’t fix the problem, try uninstalling the app.
  3. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Uninstall > Spotify.
  4. Don’t install Spotify from Microsoft Store again. Go to official Spotify download page and download the installer.
