If you’re looking for a way to optimize your Windows 11 device, troubleshoot common problems or even access hardware configurations, sysdm.cpl or System Properties Control Panel is your gateway to all these.
What are the key functions of sysdm.cpl?
- Rename your PC – Your PC will come with the default name which can be hard to recognize when trying to connect to it remotely. To make it easier, you can rename it from the sysdm.cpl control. You can also join a domain from this window.
- Access to Device Manager – Sysdm.cpl provides another way to launch your Device Manager and update, uninstall or rollback your drivers. You can also decide what happens to app icons when you download programs.
- System optimization – The advanced tab allows you to manage your virtual memory, adjust visual effects and processor scheduling. You can also configure your user profiles by deleting or creating a new one. In case of system failure, you can also choose the startup and recovery options.
- System Restore – If you want to roll back to a time when your device was working especially to troubleshoot, you can create a restore point, configure and delete restore points as well as perform a system restore from this tab.
- Remote connection – You can allow remote connections to your PC as well as configure restrictions and access to these remote connections.
How do I access the sysdm.cpl command?
1. Using the Run Dialog Box
- Press the Windows + R keys on your keyboard to open the Run dialog.
- Type sysdm.cpl in the text box and press Enter on your keyboard.
- The System Properties menu will open.
- Navigate to the Advanced tab.
- You are now in the Advanced System Settings menu.
2. Using the Control Panel
- Press the Windows key, type Control Panel, and click Open.
- Click View by and select Category from the drop-down.
- Now click System and Security.
- Click System.
- On the next page, select System.
- Click Advanced system settings.
- On the System Properties window, go to the Advanced tab.

How do I adjust Sysdm.cpl for best performance?
- Press the Windows + R keys on your keyboard to open the Run dialog.
- Type sysdm.cpl in the text box and press Enter on your keyboard.
- Now, click the Advanced tab on the System Properties window and press the Settings button.
- The Visual Effects tab lists all the effects, which will probably be selected by default.
- Selecting the Adjust for best performance option will deselect all the effect settings.
- Finally, press the Apply and OK buttons to confirm the new settings.
The best performance settings will speed up your PC but in return, it will disable visual effects such as animations. If you don’t game a lot, these will have no effect.
You can also adjust the performance for processor scheduling by navigating to the Advanced tab. Here, you can select how your processor allocates resources. Selecting the Programs option will ensure CPU usage is optimized for actively used apps to avoid high spikes.
