Key notes
- You should check to see if your device meets the system requirements for Windows 11.
- There are a lot of ways to improve speed on your Windows 11's File Explorer, as well as your Task Manager.
- However, you can still use Windows 10.
Windows 11 has been out for almost 2 years now, but the operating system is still not the most popular Windows. On the contrary, Windows 10, whose current version is also its last version, is still the most popular Windows around. On every thread everywhere, users are still asking if Windows 11 is worth it.
Well, we can tell you for sure that yes, Windows 11 is worth it. While the operating system is still updated regularly, its AI features, including Windows 11 Copilot, steal the whole show.
However, not all users agree on this. A Reddit user, for example, made an experiment with both Windows 10 and Windows 11, and they found something interesting.
They installed Windows 11 on their PC and used the operating system for a year. Then, they went back to Windows 10, and there was an important difference between these two Windows versions.
Windows 10 and 11 difference: File Explorer
According to the user, there is a major difference between Windows 10 and Windows 11. And that is the speed of the File Explorer and Task Manager. In Windows 10, both the File Explorer and the Task Manager run faster than on Windows 11.
I really don’t know what happened with W11, and I don’t think it’s a problem depending on my hardware, but opening the File Explorer or the Task Manager takes much longer and is generally much slower.
While several solutions can significantly speed up your File Explorer in Windows 11, the user ultimately chooses Windows 10 as their main operating system.
Although I appreciated some changes in the GUI, and even some features, including the not very polished feature of tabbing (Unable to move tabs to another FIle Explorer window), I decided that I prefer speed over aesthetics.
However, it’s good to know that Windows 10 will reach end-of-life support in 2025. While there is no hurry yet to update, you need to take into consideration that most games and software apps will be designed for Windows 11 from now on.
Plus, the Redmond-based tech giant will ensure Windows 11 becomes more stable and faster with each update. Microsoft has been fixing many of Windows 11’s issues, including hundreds of vulnerabilities so in the long run, Windows 11 is the OS to go.
However, you should stay on Windows 10 for now, if you that’s what you want. Especially if you feel that your device is better suited for it, but remember 2025.
