Windows 11 Experimental Future Platforms Build 29639 Lets You Pause Updates Indefinitely

If you’ve been keeping an eye on Windows 11’s experimental builds, Microsoft has another update waiting for you. In addition to releasing Beta Build 26220.9022 and Beta (26H1) Build 28020.2623, the company has also released Windows 11 Insider Experimental (Future Platforms) Preview Build 29639.1000.

One of the biggest changes included in this build is that users can now extend paused updates as many times as needed, removing the previous limit and giving them greater control over when updates are installed. Unlike Beta (26H1) Build 28020.2623, Microsoft hasn’t announced any additional Windows Update changes in Experimental (Future Platforms) Build 29639.1000.

Besides letting users pause Windows Updates, Microsoft is also improving accessibility for users who navigate Windows with a controller. The Bluetooth Quick Settings page now supports gamepad navigation, making it easier to connect and manage Bluetooth devices without relying on a keyboard or mouse.

Speaking of enterprise features, the company has expanded its smart card removal policy for remote work environments. Administrators can now configure Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365 sessions using Microsoft Entra ID authentication to automatically disconnect when a redirected smart card is removed.

Microsoft says the change helps organizations bolster security and better meet compliance requirements for remote desktop environments.
