Xbox Project Helix's Latest Rumor Points to 6x Graphics Jump and 20x Ray Tracing Upgrade
Next-gen Xbox console is officially under development with codename Project Helix, as shared in an update by new Xbox CEO, Asha Sharma. Although, Sharma teased that the new Xbox console will lead in performance and allow you to play Xbox and PC games, we didn’t hear much about specs, pricing, and official release timeline. Well, if you have been lurking on the internet looking for these details, we may have something to share with you, all thanks to prominent tipster Moore’s Law is Dead.
Per Moore’s Law Is Dead latest YouTube video, Project Helix could deliver a massive performance leap over the current Xbox Series X. The next-gen system is said to feature a custom AMD Magnus APU designed to push console hardware much closer to modern gaming PCs. The report claims Project Helix could offer roughly a six-times increase in rasterization performance compared to the Xbox Series X. Ray tracing performance may see an even bigger jump, reportedly reaching up to twenty times higher.
Much of that improvement would reportedly come from AMD’s RDNA 5 graphics architecture. While the chip may only include around 30 percent more Compute Units than the Series X, each unit is reportedly about 65 percent faster. That architectural change alone could dramatically bump up the performance. That’s not all; frame rate targets could also climb. The console is said to aim for gameplay beyond the traditional 120 FPS ceiling that many current systems target.
Early estimates place the console somewhere between $999 and $1,200, though final pricing will depend on how aggressively Microsoft decides to subsidize the hardware. The next Xbox is currently expected to arrive sometime in 2027.
Project Helix is also rumored to feature a hybrid CPU configuration. Early information points to a combination of up to three Zen 6 performance cores alongside eight Zen 6c efficiency cores. This layout could help the system handle both traditional console games and PC titles. If the reported specs orove accurate, Project Helix could mark one of the biggest generational leaps the Xbox platform has seen.
