teams notification sound change

Yes, you’ve heard that right: Teams will allow users to change the notification sound on all desktop versions of the platform. This long-requested feature should have been released in 2017 when the Redmond-based tech giant released Teams. But somehow, Microsoft only realized now, more than 7 years later, that this basic but so-needed capability should be added to the platform.

According to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, users can change their Teams’ notification sound starting in July 2024. Currently, this feature is available only on Android devices, and users have been asking for it to be expanded to other versions of the platform, but the Redmond-based tech giant hasn’t wanted to hear about it until now.

However, these will end in July, when Microsoft will allow users to personalize their notification sounds. Here’s what the entry says:

You can change the sound of your notifications to help you stay focused, prioritize quickly and avoid distractions. You can as well make urgent notifications and priority contact notifications more prominent. You can also mute notification sounds when you are busy or in a meeting.

Microsoft

The Redmond-based tech giant hasn’t offered any details about the new option, but the company will most likely share about this groundbreaking (pun intended) capability as July approaches. It’s a bummer that Microsoft enhanced Teams with Copilot, and AI capabilities such as the new Team Copilot, but has completely forgotten about such a fundamental option.

Sure, maybe the company wanted users to associate the notification sound with Teams, but given just how many people asked for the ability to change it, maybe it hasn’t worked as intended. Either way, this could very well be a drawback too. Users will have to get used to the new notification sounds, and many might find themselves in trouble for avoiding notifications simply because they don’t sound like notifications.

But that’s an amazing problem if you ask me. Anyways, what sounds will you choose? I’m thinking about Darude – Sandstorm!
