It can be annoying to run into the Steam error code e20 as it prevents you from downloading or playing your favorite games on the platform, but there are ways to fix it, and this guide will show you how to do it.

How can I fix the Steam error code e20?

Before we try anything else, you can try connecting to Steam using your mobile hotspot. You can also try logging in by scanning the QR code on your phone.

1. Clear the htmlcache folder

  1. Close Steam completely.
  2. Press the Windows key + R, enter %localappdata%, and click OK.

  3. Next, navigate to Steam\htmlcache
  4. Delete everything from htmlcache folder.
  5. Start Steam again.

2. Flush the DNS

  1. Press the Windows key + S and enter cmd. Select Run as administrator.

  2. Run the following command: ipconfig /flushdnsipconfig flush dns
  3. Wait for the process to finish and start Steam again.

3. Change your connection to private

  1. Press the Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. Next, go to Network & Internet and select your connection type.

4. Run Steam as an Administrator and in Compatibility Modes

  1. Right-click on the Steam icon on your desktop screen and select Properties.
  2. Go to the Compatibility tab and check the box for the Run this program as an administrator option. Then, check the box for Run this program in compatibility mode, then choose a Windows version from the drop-down.
  3. Click OK to save the changes.

5. Disable Windows Firewall

  1. Click the Start button, type the control panel, and press Enter.
  2. Select Windows Defender Firewall.
  3. Click the Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off option from the left pane.
  4. Go to the Private network settings and Public network settings, then click the radio buttons for the Turn off Windows Defender Firewall (not recommended) option.
  5. Restart your PC and check if the error persists.

Disabling your firewall isn’t advised as a permanent solution, so be sure to turn back the firewall if everything works.
