Security is very important thing for every Windows user. And to help you choose the best solution, and make your computer as safe as possible, AV-Test Institute created a list of the best antivirus programs for Windows 10. The list features some famous antivirus programs, we’ve used to see on a lot of computers running previous versions of Windows, as well as some really good free programs. Windows 10’s own Windows Defender also made it to the list, but its overall score didn’t amaze researchers from AV-Test.
Avira Antivirus Pro absolutely tops the list, with the score of 6 out of 6 in all three categories (protection, performance, and usability). This is really encouraging, assuming that a lot of people believed that freeware antivirus programs simply can’t be better that the best paid ones, and according to AV-Test’s researches, this changed in Windows 10. Only other antivirus programs that had a score of 6 in all three categories are Bitdefender Internet Security 2015 & 2016, Kaspersky Lab Internet Security, and Norton Antivirus.
F-Secure and Trend Micro got 6 points for protection, 5.5 points for performance, and 6 points for usability, while other, probably more famous free antivirus software, like Avast and AVG got worse overall score. One of the bigger surprises on the list is relatively low score of ESET Smart Security, with 3 points in the field of performance (but 5.5 for protection, and 6 for usability).
A lot of people choose to use Windows 10’s own Windows Defender, instead of installing any third-party program, and Microsoft’s security tool also made it to the list. But, according to researches, it in the bottom of the list in overall score (3.5 for protection, 4.5 for performance, and all 6 for usability). Only two antiviruses had worse score than Windows Defender, ThreatTrack and Quick Heal.
