Microsoft Is Modernizing Windows 11’s Print Management Tool
Windows 11 is getting a modern WinUI 3 Print Management app as Microsoft continues replacing older administrative interfaces. The redesigned tool has now appeared in the Release Preview Channel, according to Windows Latest.
The new Print Management experience comes with KB5120998, which Microsoft released to the Windows 11 Release Preview Channel on August 14, 2026.
Windows 11 Print Management gets a WinUI 3 redesign
Microsoft has rebuilt Print Management with WinUI 3, replacing the familiar MMC-style interface with a design that better matches Windows 11.
The new app includes a hamburger navigation menu, a more spacious layout, modern dialogs, and other Windows 11-style visual elements.
Microsoft has kept the main administrative features intact. Users can still manage printers, print queues, printer drivers, ports, print servers, shared printers, and driver configurations.
Some individual controls have also received updates. Rename Printer now opens a simpler modern dialog, while Driver Properties continues to show details such as driver paths, configuration files, and dependent files.
Printer migration also remains available, allowing administrators to review print queues, drivers, and ports before exporting them.
The classic Print Management console isn’t gone yet
The redesign remains a work in progress. Some older Windows dialogs still appear inside the app, and earlier versions required users to select Run as administrator manually.
Microsoft has also not announced the retirement of the classic MMC-based Print Management console. The company could keep both versions available during the transition.
The new app’s appearance in Release Preview suggests a wider rollout could come soon, but Microsoft could still delay it. Windows Latest notes that Microsoft does not specifically mention the redesigned Print Management app in its Release Preview changelog.
Microsoft is updating several other long-standing parts of Windows 11 at the same time. The company is removing WMIC, while also developing a new AutoPlay dialog and a redesigned right-click menu.
