A black screen in Opera GX will prevent you from browsing the web, and it can also make playing multimedia a lot harder, so today we’re going to show you how to fix that.

How do I get rid of the black screen on Opera GX?

Before we start, if you’re using any power saving settings on your PC, disable them.

1. Update to the latest stable version

  1. Open Opera GX. Tap the Menu button in the upper left corner.
  2. Select Update & Recovery.
    Click on updates and recovery.
  3. Click on Check for update.

  4. If there’s a new version available, it will be installed right away.

2. Clear browsing data

  1. In Opera, press Ctrl + Shift + Del.
  2. Check the boxes you want to clear. Special emphasis goes to Cached images and files and Cookies.

  3. Set the time range to All time and click on Clear data.

3. Disable hardware acceleration

  1. Open Opera GX. Press ALT + P to open Settings.
  2. Expand the Advanced section.opera gx settings advanced
  3. Scroll down until you see the System section, then toggle off Use hardware acceleration when available.

  4. Restart your browser and see if the issue persists.

4. Use the use-angle flag

  1. In Opera GX, go location using the address bar: opera://flags/#use-angle
  2. Set the ANGLE graphics backend to OpenGL or D3D9 or D3D11.

  3. Restart the browser.

5. Update your GPU drivers

  1. Press Windows key + X.
  2. Click Device Manager.
  3. Navigate to Display Adapters.
  4. Right-click the troubled GPU device and choose Update Driver.
  5. Finally, once the driver installs, restart your PC.
