2. Modify the registry

  1. Press the Windows key + S and type cmd. Select Run as administrator.

  2. Run the following commands one by one:
    REG ADD HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes.htm /ve /d htmlfile /f
    REG ADD HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes.html /ve /d htmlfile /f
    REG ADD HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes.shtml /ve /d htmlfile /f
    REG ADD HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes.xht /ve /d htmlfile /f
    REG ADD HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes.xhtml /ve /d htmlfile /f
  3. Close the Command Prompt and check if the problem is still there. If it is, try restarting your PC.

  1. Press Windows key + R and enter gpedit.msc.
  2. In the left pane, in User Configuration navigate to Administrative Templates and then System. In the right pane, choose Donโ€™t run specified Windows applications.
  3. Make sure this policy is set to Not configured.
