Rockstar Removes GTA Online Missions Simulating Real-World Violence
Grand Theft Auto Online has allowed players to design custom missions with the GTA 5 Mansion Update, but Rockstar Games has now stepped in after some creations crossed a serious line and sparked public controversy.
Rockstar removes controversial user-created missions
According to reporting from Variety, several Grand Theft Auto Online players used the game’s mission creator to design scenarios that appeared to simulate the assassination of Charlie Kirk. These missions circulated online through shared clips and descriptions, quickly drawing criticism for referencing a real-world political figure in a violent context.
Rockstar Games moved quickly once the content gained attention. The studio removed the offending missions from GTA Online. Rockstar also added the name “Charlie Kirk” to its restricted terms list, effectively blocking players from using the name in future mission titles, descriptions, or dialogue created with the tool.
This step shows Rockstar’s intent to limit how far user creativity can go when it intersects with real people or current events. While the mission creator gives players broad freedom, Rockstar continues to draw clear lines around content that could promote or depict real-world harm.
The moderation move comes as Rockstar faces increased scrutiny across its flagship franchise. As GTA Online continues to evolve with more advanced creation tools, the company appears prepared to intervene faster when content risks reputational or ethical concerns.
Meanwhile, discussion around the next mainline entry continues to grow. Recent reports suggest some earlier GTA 6 leaks may have been accurate, prompting renewed debate within the community.
At the same time, journalists who previously fueled rumors about a potential GTA 6 delay have clarified their statements, stressing that Rockstar has not officially announced any schedule changes. For now, GTA 6 remains surrounded by speculation rather than confirmed updates.
