Microsoft removes SMS integration in Teams

Starting mid-July 2025, Microsoft will begin enabling a rules-based control that lets admins pre-approve third-party apps in Teams using specific criteria. The company says that the rollout should be wrapped up by early August.

You’ll find the rules-based app control settings right inside the Microsoft Teams Admin Center, under Manage apps > Actions > Org-wide app settings > Microsoft 365 certified apps.

So what’s new? Right now, you can’t manage Microsoft 365 certified apps in bulk. Everything depends on tenant-specific settings. After this update, you’ll be able to define org-wide rules that automatically control only trusted, compliant apps in the Teams Admin Center.

Microsoft says these “predefined, safe criteria” should help organizations strike a balance between flexibility and security. Do note that it’ll be on by default. So, you don’t have to tweak obscure policies—unless you want to. Microsoft originally said the feature would eventually come to E licenses and others.

However, if you check the support docs now (via Neowin), that detail is gone. As of today, it’s only available to those with F (Frontline) licenses. So if you’re managing Teams for knowledge workers or corporate users, you might be stuck waiting. To stay updated on this, keep an eye on message MC1085133 in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center for the latest.
