Valve has confirmed that its upcoming Steam Machine and Steam Frame devices are scheduled to launch this summer, providing the clearest launch window yet for the company’s next generation of SteamOS-powered hardware.

The confirmation appeared in a recent Steamworks post discussing changes to the Steam Verified program. Valve revealed that it is expanding compatibility testing beyond Steam Deck to include both Steam Machine and Steam Frame.

The move aims to help users understand how well games will run on the new devices without requiring additional setup, configuration, or troubleshooting. Similar to Steam Deck Verified, Valve plans to use a badge system that clearly indicates whether a game delivers a good experience on the new hardware.

Valve expands Steam Verified beyond Steam Deck

The Steam Verified program has played a major role in helping Steam Deck owners identify games that work well on Valve’s handheld. Now, Valve is bringing a similar approach to its upcoming desktop-focused products.

Under the new system, games will receive compatibility ratings for Steam Machine and Steam Frame. The badges will indicate whether titles function properly on the SteamOS desktop environment and meet Valve’s standards for usability and performance.

The announcement follows several recent signs that Valve is preparing for a broader hardware rollout. Steam Machine recently appeared in the Vulkan Conformance Database, while references to a Steam Machine Welcome Tour were discovered on Steam’s backend systems.

Some games may receive new compatibility ratings

Because Steam Machine is expected to offer significantly more powerful hardware than Steam Deck, some games that previously failed Steam Deck verification due to performance limitations could be retested. Those titles may qualify for Steam Machine Verified status even if they remain unsupported or unverified on Valve’s handheld.

This distinction could result in a larger library of fully verified games for Steam Machine users at launch. While Valve has now provided a summer launch target, details such as pricing remain undisclosed.

Industry observers also expect Valve to use a reservation system similar to the one used for Steam Deck. Such a system would help manage demand and prevent scalping during the initial release period, though Valve has not officially confirmed reservation plans.
