Windows 11 KB5089573 Optional Preview Update Brings Shared Audio and NPU Monitoring
Microsoft is gradually rolling out the changes
Microsoft has officially released KB5089573 for Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 24H2 after testing the update in the Release Preview channel. The update is now available publicly and brings several production-quality improvements across audio sharing, accessibility, Task Manager, and enterprise camera management.
The KB5089573 also bumps Windows 11 to OS builds 26200.8524 and 26100.8524.
Shared Audio arrives in Windows 11
One of the biggest additions in the update is Shared Audio support. The feature allows two people to listen to the same audio from one Windows 11 PC at the same time using Bluetooth LE Audio broadcast technology.
Users can start the feature from Quick Settings > Shared Audio. Microsoft says the feature requires two supported Bluetooth audio devices that are paired and connected to the PC.
Magnifier improvements focus on accessibility
Microsoft also improved Magnifier behavior for users who rely on screen readers. Windows 11 now provides clearer spoken announcements when users zoom in or out, switch views, toggle color inversion, or turn Magnifier on and off.
The company also added support for magnifying permitted protected content. Lens mode movement should now feel smoother during navigation.
Task Manager gains better NPU monitoring
KB5089573 introduces improved NPU monitoring inside Task Manager on supported PCs. Windows 11 can now show more detailed NPU usage information alongside neural engines integrated into GPUs on the Performance page.
Microsoft also added a new optional Isolation column that shows which applications are running inside an AppContainer. The update further fixes an issue where CPU speed reporting could display incorrectly for virtual machines after resuming from hibernation.
Enterprise camera controls expand
Microsoft added several new camera management features aimed at enterprise environments. Administrators can now configure camera behavior through Group Policy settings under the Camera section inside Administrative Templates.
Windows 11 now supports Multi-App Camera, allowing multiple applications to access the same camera stream simultaneously. Microsoft also introduced Basic Camera mode, which provides simplified camera functionality for troubleshooting and stability purposes.
Microsoft says these features are part of a gradual rollout, which means some users may not see all changes immediately after installing the update.
