What does Winsock error mean?

A Winsock error is a specific kind of network error. It can happen in any operating system but is most commonly associated with Windows.

Winsock refers to the Windows Sockets API, a set of functions built into Windows that allow applications to communicate over TCP/IP networks. These functions are used by programs to handle network connections and send data between computers on the Internet.

A Winsock error occurs when an application attempts to connect to another computer using the TCP/IP protocol but can’t establish a connection. This can happen for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Outdated driversOutdated drivers can also cause win socket errors on your computer as they might not be compatible with the latest operating systems or security updates released by Microsoft.
  • Incorrectly configured proxy settings – If you’re using a proxy server and have recently updated your computer’s network settings, it’s possible that you’ve accidentally disabled them.
  • Firewall settings – A firewall or antivirus application may be blocking the connection between your computer and the server you are trying to connect with.
  • Faulty hardware – Another possible cause of this error could be faulty hardware, such as a bad network card or bad cables
  • Virus infection – You may have a virus or malware on your computer preventing you from connecting to the internet.
