Fix – “This app can’t run on your PC”
Solution 1 – Create a new administrator account
Few users reported that “This app can’t run on your PC” error message is rather frequent on their PCs. According to them, this error message appears when trying to open some of the basic Windows 10 applications, such as Task Manager for example. If this issue persists, it might be due to a problem with your user account, and in order to fix this issue, it’s advised that you create a new administrator account. To do that, follow these steps:
- Open Settings app and go to Accounts > Family & other users.
- Navigate to Other users section and click Add someone else to this PC.
- Choose I don’t have this person’s sign-in information.
- Now choose Add a user without a Microsoft account.
- Enter the name and password for the new administrator account.
- You should see new account available in Other users section. Select the new account and click the Change account type button.
- Choose Administrator from Account type menu and click OK.
After switching to your newly created Administrator account problems with “This app can’t run on your PC” error message should be fixed. If the problem is resolved, you’ll need to move your personal files and folders to this account and use it instead of your old account.
Solution 2 – Disable SmartScreen
SmartScreen is a built-in Windows 10 feature designed to protect your from phishing attacks and malware. According to the reports, this feature can sometimes cause “This app can’t run on your PC” error, so it might be best that we disable it. To disable SmartScreen do the following:
- Press Windows Key + S and enter smart screen. Choose Change SmartScreen settings from the list of results.
- Go to Security section and locate Windows SmartScreen.
- Click Change settings and select Do not do anything (turn off Windows SmartScreen). Click OK to save changes.
Solution 3 – Enable App Side-loading
To enable app side-loading, do the following:
- Open Settings app and navigate to Update & Security section.
- Go to For developers tab and under Use developer features select Developer mode.
Solution 4 – Make a copy of .exe file you’re trying to run
If you’re getting “This app can’t run on your PC” error message while trying to run a specific app, you might want to try creating a copy of that application’s .exe file. To do that, just select the .exe file of the application you’re trying to run and use Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V shortcut. You should see a new .exe file available. Solution 5 – Update Windows Store

1. Go to Start > type cmd > right-click Command Prompt > select Run as Administrator
2. Now type the sfc /scannow command
3. Wait for the scanning process to complete and then restart your computer. All corrupted files will be replaced on reboot.
Solution 8 – Check your disk for errors
Another reason why apps won’t launch on your PC is because of disk errors. Running a disk check can help you identify and remove these errors within minutes. On Windows 10, you can run a disk check using Command Prompt.
Start Command Prompt as administrator and type the chkdsk C: /f command followed by Enter. Replace C with the letter of your hard drive partition.
As a quick reminder, if you do not use the /f parameter, chkdsk displays a message that the file needs to be fixed, but it does not fix any errors. The chkdsk D: /f command detects and repairs logical issues affecting your drive. To repair physical issues, run the /r parameter as well.
Solution 9 – Clear your browser cache
Sometimes, the reason why apps won’t run on Windows 10 is because the download process got corrupted. As a result, particular files and folders did not fully download or didn’t download at all. This often happens if you don’t clear your browser cache regularly.
As a result, first clear your browser cache, remove the problematic app and then try to download and install it again. Solution 10 – Clean your temporary files and folders
The simplest and quickest manner to delete your temporary files and folders is to use Disk Cleanup. As you use your computer or browse the Internet, your PC accumulates various unnecessary files.
These so called junk files may affect your computer’s processing speed, causing apps to respond slowly and may also trigger various error codes. Clean your temporary files and then to download and install the problematic app on the respective drive again.
Here’s how to use Disk Cleanup on Windows 10:
1. Go to Start > type Disk Cleanup > launch the tool
2. Select the disk that you want to clean > the tool will them tell you how much space you can free up
3. Select “Clean up system files”.
Solution 11 – Run a full system scan
Malware may cause various issues on your computer. It can trigger various error codes, prevent apps from installing or running, etc. Perform a full system scan in order to detect any malware running on your computer. You can use Windows’ built-in antivirus, Windows Defender, or third-party antivirus solutions.
Here’s how to run a full system scan on Windows 10 Creators Update:
- Go to Start > type ‘defender’ > double click Windows Defender to launch the tool
- In the left hand pane, select the shield icon
- In the new window, click the Advanced scan option
- Check the full scan option to launch a full system malware scan.
Solution 12 – Update your OS
Make sure that you’re running the latest Windows OS updates on your machine. As a quick reminder, Microsoft constantly rolls out Windows updates in order to improve the system’s stability and fix various issues.
To access the Windows Update section, you can simply type “update” in the search box. This method works on all Windows versions. Then go to Windows Update, check for updates and install the available updates.
After you’ve installed the latest updates, launch the problematic apps again to see if the issue persists.
Fix – “This app can’t run on your PC” Windows 10 32-bit
Solution – Download the appropriate version for your PC
As you probably know, there are two versions of applications available: 32-bit and 64-bit. Windows 10 is no exception, and it comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. 32-bit version is designed to work only with 32-bit applications while 64-bit version can work with both 64-bit and 32-bit applications.
If you are seeing “This app can’t run on your PC” error, this is probably because you’re trying to run 64-bit version of a certain application on 32-bit version of Windows 10. As we previously mentioned, 32-bit version of Windows 10 cannot run 64-bit apps, and in order to fix this problem, you’ll need to find a 32-bit version of the application you’re trying to run and install it on your computer.
Another solution is to switch to a 64-bit version of Windows 10. Unfortunately, this isn’t a simple process, and in order to do that you’ll have to reinstall Windows 10 completely.

Fix – “This app can’t run on your PC” Windows 10 AMD
Solution – Download the application again using a different web browser
Number of users reported “This app can’t run on your PC” error message while trying to install AMD graphic card drivers. Apparently, the problem was caused by corrupted download, and after switching to a different browser and redownloading the same file again the issue was permanently resolved.

Solution – Install iTunes as an administrator
“This app can’t run on your PC” error affects number of applications and iTunes is no exception. If you can’t install iTunes on your Windows 10 PC, you might want to try installing it as an administrator. To that simply right click iTunes setup file and choose Run as administrator from the menu.
In addition to installing iTunes as an administrator, many users reported success with redownloading the setup file. As previously mentioned, in some cases downloads can get corrupted and you might have to redownload the same file several times before you can install it. In addition to redownloading, many users are suggesting that you use a different browser to download the same file.
Fix – “This app can’t run on your PC” Broadcom 802.11
Solution – Disable Broadcom 802.11 Network Adapter Wireless Network Tray Applet
Users reported “This app can’t run on your PC” error message while using Broadcom 802.11 network adapter. Apparently, there’s a problem with a file called WLTRAY.EXE, and in order to fix the problem it’s advised that you remove it from Startup. To do that, follow these steps:
- Start Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- When Task Manager opens navigate to Startup tab, find Broadcom Network Adapter Wireless Network Tray Applet, right click it and choose Disable.
- Close Task Manager.
After you restart your computer you won’t see Broadcom tray icon available, but the problem with “This app can’t run on your PC” error message will be resolved.
“This app can’t run on your PC” error message can be a problem since it can affect almost any application on your Windows 10 PC. This error is often caused by incompatibility or by corrupted download, but you can easily fix it by following one of our solutions.
