With Call of Duty Modern Warface 3 live in the beta phase, users couldn’t be more thrilled, but it’s not an entirely smooth experience, and a few reported Dev Error 841.
Remember, beta testing stages are known to be unstable, with error codes popping up at different stages or through the entire game. Besides, many face performance issues. But as far as this situation is concerned, it’s a minor error code.
What is Dev Error 841?
This is a server-side error encountered when players are in the middle of a multiplayer game. The game pauses for a second, only to return to the main menu.
Since it’s an online game, issues are bound to appear due to network problems, both at the user’s end and the game’s. The Dev Error 841 is encountered on all devices, including the PC, Xbox consoles, and PlayStation.
How do I fix Dev Error 841 in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare?
Before we start with the slightly complex changes, try these quick tricks:
- Check for any available game updates and install them to fix Dev Error 841 in MW3. Since it’s widespread, the developers will soon release a patch for it.
- Switch to another network. If connected wirelessly, go with a wired connection to eliminate any network issues.
- Check for slow Internet speed or network issues. And make sure the Internet doesn’t randomly disconnect at brief intervals. Try restarting the router or modem.
- Restart the device throwing the error message, be it a PC, Xbox, or PlayStation.

2. Try less problematic modes
The error is frequently encountered in the Ground War game mode. While there is no official statement for it, the only logical explanation seems to be the popularity of the mode and the higher number of users entering a multiplayer match.
So, you could try the other game modes on Modern Warfare 3, be it on a PC or a gaming console.
3. Perform a network reset
- Press Windows + I to open Settings, go to Network & Internet from the navigation pane, and click on Advanced network settings.
- Click Network reset under More settings.
- Click the Reset now button.
- Finally, click Yes in the confirmation prompt.
- Once done, restart the computer and check for improvements.
4. Reinstall the game
- Press Windows + R to open Run, type appwiz.cpl in the text field, and hit Enter.
- Locate Modern Warfare 3 from the list of applications, select it, and click on Uninstall.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
- Now, reinstall the game and check whether the error message disappears.
Sometimes, the previous installation or corrupted files can trigger Dev Error 841 in Modern Warfare. If that doesn’t work, use a reliable uninstaller software to get rid of any leftover files. This also helps with Dev Error 5523.
4. Wait for the official game (stable version) release
In case nothing else works, your best bet is to wait for the official game release. CoD Modern Warfare 3 will be released on November 10, 2023.
And any issues or bugs in the beta state will be identified and eliminated by then. So, for an uninterrupted gaming experience without Dev Error 841, install the stable build of Modern Warfare 3.
Beta Weekends and Matchmaking Cooldowns
For those wondering what Beta Weekends are, the releases in the beta phase of Modern Warfare 3 have been spread across two weekends.
The first, Oct 6-10, will see PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 players getting access to the game, while during the second Beta Weekend, Oct 12-16, the game will be available for PCs and Xbox consoles.
And for anyone bothered about facing matchmaking cooldowns due to server-based errors, that shouldn’t be the case. Unless you willfully abandon an ongoing match or it happens too frequently, no penalty should be imposed!
You now understand that there isn’t much to do when fixing Dev Error 841, except wait for a patch from the developers. But these workarounds might help, as they did during Dev Error 6068 and Dev error 5433. However, as per our research, there were not any cases of Dev Error 841 in MW2.
Besides, these are not exclusive to modern warfare; a few also came across Dev Error 5476 in Warzone. It is Activision’s style of nomenclature! Before you go, don’t miss our latest guide on Dev error 12502.
