Microsoft Edge now syncs Tab Groups and Workspaces across devices
The feature is tested in Canary and appears as a new option in sync settings.
Microsoft Edge is adding Tab Groups and Workspaces to its sync options so users can access their organised browsing setup across signed-in devices. The feature is available in Edge Canary and worked across devices during our testing.
Tab Groups organise browsing sessions by grouping tabs under labels and colours. They help reduce clutter and keep similar tasks together.
Edge Workspaces let users open a dedicated browser window containing a saved set of tabs and files for a project or topic. They let users return to this workspace window later and invite others to join the same set of tabs.
Until now, the Edge browser has supported syncing history, open tabs, favourites, passwords, extensions, collections, and site settings. Tab Groups and Workspaces did not have a dedicated sync toggle. They often stayed tied to the device where they were created.
Tab Groups and Workspaces Sync in Microsoft Edge Canary
Microsoft has added a new sync option in Edge Canary settings that lists “Workspaces and Tab Groups”. The description says users can “easily access, organise and manage your Workspaces and saved Tab Groups across signed-in devices”.
The option appears in the Profiles > Sync page and looks like a recent addition.

Adding Tab Groups and Workspaces to the sync list shows Microsoft tests support across more devices, such as Android, iOS, and desktop versions. It lets users return to the same browsing setup when switching devices.
In our testing, we created a new Tab Group and a workspace in Edge Canary. Both synchronised and appeared in Beta, Dev, and Release versions. Since Workspaces remain limited to desktop unless enabled through a flag on Android, we only noticed Tab Groups syncing on Edge mobile (Android and iOS), not Workspaces.
Microsoft has not announced cross-device syncing of Tab Groups and Workspaces yet. If you use Edge Canary, it is worth checking whether the sync option is enabled and working for you. This addition could help more users once it becomes available beyond Canary.
That’s not all. In addition to Tab Group and Workspace syncing support, Edge is adding Passkey sync and testing the removal of the “Allow extensions from other stores” toggle. Microsoft is also testing the option to allowlist trusted sites for typo protection in Edge Canary.
