PlayerUnknown Productions has announced a major restructuring effort that will see the studio operate with a smaller team, resulting in the suspension of development on its survival game Prologue: Go Wayback.

The announcement was made through a post on the game’s Steam page, where the studio explained that it is reshaping its operations while focusing on supporting affected employees. The company did not disclose how many staff members will be impacted by the changes.

Prologue: Go Wayback Development Paused

Prologue: Go Wayback launched in early access in November 2025 as the first project from PlayerUnknown Productions, the studio founded by PUBG creator Brendan Greene.

According to the announcement, active development on the game has now been halted. While the project is effectively on hold, the studio said it hopes to return to Prologue in the future if circumstances allow.

One Final Update Planned

Before stepping away from development, the team plans to release one final update for Prologue: Go Wayback.

The upcoming patch will officially move the game out of early access and transition it to a free-to-play model. The studio has not yet shared a release date for the update, but additional information is expected in the coming weeks.

Refunds Under Investigation

PlayerUnknown Productions also confirmed that it is exploring refund options for players who previously purchased the game.

The company said it is currently investigating how refunds could be handled and promised to provide more details through Steam and Discord once a final plan has been determined.

For now, players who bought the game will need to wait for further announcements regarding eligibility and the refund process.

Focus on Employees During Transition

The studio stated that its immediate priority is supporting team members affected by the restructuring.

However, the announcement stopped short of providing details about layoffs, severance packages, relocation assistance, or other support measures that may be offered to employees.

PlayerUnknown Productions was founded by Brendan Greene following the massive success of PUBG: Battlegrounds. By mid-2020, PUBG had sold more than 70 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling games of all time.

Despite that success, several newer projects connected to the PUBG creator have faced challenges. Earlier this year, PUBG Blindspot was discontinued after spending less than two months in early access.

The pause of Prologue: Go Wayback adds another hurdle for the studio as it attempts to refine its long-term strategy and future game development plans.
