The Shift key can be found on any keyboard, with the main purpose of changing the letters from lower to capital, or vice versa when the CapsLock key is on.
This key is also used in keyboard shortcuts, or when the users want to type the above characters from the keys that have two printed on, such as the ones found above the numeric keys.
The Shift key has to be pressed at the same time with the other key in order to perform these modifications. If you want to type the # character, you have to hold together Shift and numeric key 3.
Usually, a keyboard has two Shift keys, but, depending on the manufacturer, they are not always placed in the same place. However, it is easy to recognize by the Shift text or the upper arrow printed on it.
