As you already know, support for Windows 7 has ended, and that means that users will no longer be receiving security updates to their OS. Because of this, It is a good idea to update to Windows 10 as soon as possible or get the windows 7 Extended Support.

Staying with an older OS is generally a bad idea, since the reduced level of security makes you extra vulnerable, especially when your PC contains sensitive data.

One good example is not upgrading when using accounting software since it usually contains data that can be easily exploitable, such as Social Security number and bank account information.

For example, there are plenty of things that you should remember if you have Windows 7 installed, and are using a program like Quickbooks.

What happens to QuickBooks if I stick to Windows 7?

1. If you don’t upgrade to Windows 10

Regardless of the version of QuickBooks that you have, the main idea is that Windows 7 will no longer be receiving security updates. Thus, this change also impacts QuickBooks Desktop Plus products

If you do decide to stay with Windows 7, you will need to use an older version of QuickBooks Desktop. However, you will still be at risk of exposing your sensitive data, and that of your customers and employees.

To be perfectly clear, you can use any version of QuickBooks Desktop version 2019 and earlier.

2. If you buy the Windows 7 Extended Support

Normally, those of you that are using the Windows 7 Extended Support feature will continue to receive security updates from Microsoft.

This means that despite having Windows 7, you will be able to use all of the newer QuickBooks Desktop versions.

However, keep in mind that the program’s notification system cannot distinguish between those that have bought the Extended Support and those who haven’t.

Thus, you will receive the occasional notification prompting you to upgrade your OS, despite being covered.
