If Signal Desktop is not showing groups, it is usually due to sync issues or network connection problems. However, the groups not showing in Signal desktop may be caused by bugs with the app itself, especially if it’s not updated on your part or for the people you’re talking with.
So, before anything else, try to refresh the group information and ask the persons in the group to update their app and send new messages in the group.
What can I do if Signal Desktop is not showing groups?
1. Update Signal and relink you desktop device
- Ensure that you have the latest version of Signal installed on both your desktop and mobile devices.
- Open Signal on your mobile device and go to Settings > Linked Devices.
- Unlink and then re-link your desktop device.
This solution usually fixes the groups not showing in Signal Desktop for most users, but if the problem persists, apply the next solution.
2. Sync contacts and groups
- Open Signal Desktop and go to Settings.
- Navigate to Preferences and click on Import Now under the Contacts section.
- Manually sync groups and contacts in the settings of the desktop app.
3. Check the network and firewall settings
- Ensure that your network connection is stable.
- If you are using a VPN or firewall, make sure it is not blocking Signal’s servers. Allow access to storage.signal.org:443 on your firewall.
We also have a guide on how to check if the firewall is blocking an app and add exceptions.
4. Reinstall Signal Desktop
