how to fix Wi-Fi doesn't have valid IP configuration

7. Change the number of DHCP users

change number of DHCP users dhcp is not enabled for wifi

According to some users, you can fix this problem by increasing the number of DHCP users. Some routers are usually limited to 50 and this can cause the IP configuration failure message to appear.

To fix this issue you need to access your router and increase the number of DHCP users manually.

Users reported that after increasing the number all issues were resolved. Check the router manual to learn how to do that.

In addition, some users also suggest that you can fix the problem with the IP configuration by increasing the number of maximum wireless users.

Some routers are limited to only 10 wireless users, and by increasing the maximum number the issue was resolved.

Just in case you can’t access your router, go to this guide to learn what you can do to fix it.

8. Perform a Clean boot

  1. Press the Windows Key + R, type msconfig and press Enter.

  4. Go to Startup tab, and click on Open Task Manager.

  5. Right-click each item on the list and choose Disable.

  6. Close Task Manager and click Apply and OK in the Windows Configuration window.
  7. Restart your computer.

Note: If the problem doesn’t appear, you might want to enable the disabled services and applications and find the one that is causing this issue so you can remove it or update it.

9. Make sure that DHCP is turned on

  1. Open Network Connections.
  2. Locate your network adapter, right click it and choose Diagnose.
diagnose network connection dhcp is not enabled for wifi
  3. Wait for the scan to finish.

Note: You can always turn on DHCP from your router settings in case you turned it off earlier.

10. Make sure that the security type matches

Sometimes IP configuration failure can be caused by your security type, so make sure that the security type on your PC matches the security type set by your router.

To do that, simply open your router settings page, visit the wireless section and check what type of security is being used. After that, make sure that your wireless adapter is using the same security type.

Problems with Wi-Fi IP configuration can prevent you from accessing the Internet, but we hope that you managed to fix this problem after using one of our solutions.

  • I have tried several different posts, uninstalled programs and drivers, disabled programs, resets, reboots, commands, nothing is working. My desktop is the only device having these issues, and I didn’t change, install or update anything to cause a problem. I dont have an antivirus program on my computer, aside from the one already provided in windows setting. I have uninstalled windows updates, trying to make it go back to previous version. Nothing is working, everything else connects to the wifi but my desktop, I have too much work and projects saved up to do a factory reset. I dont know what to do

  • I tried the first solution and it worked for one time. But when I restarted my laptop, it wont connect to any wifi connection. I tried repeating the above steps but no use. What can i do now.

  • Hello! We are glad to help you! If you have other issues on your Windows PC – check our articles and write us in the comments! 🙂

  • After 3 days trying to solve “Wifi ip configuration not valid issue” using methods mentioned here, I finally connected laptop to my smartphone hotspot and updated the network driver over internet and voila everything is fine. 😉 By the way thanks.

  • Hello, nice video. However, none of showed solution worked to me. Is there anything else that I can do?
    Thanksw

    • did you ever get a working answer i have tried them all also to no avail and its only one pc in my house . It can connect to a hot spot just not my internet provider.

  • Thank you so much! I am “computer stupid” and panicked when my computer was giving me this message. I watched your video first and then follow the article steps one at a time. I actually got it right! Thank you, thank you!

  • great information with this type of problem (Wi-Fi doesn’t have valid IP configuration )….I dumped Avast……problem solved………. then installed BitDefender

  • Nope. The Windows 10 interface doesn’t look like this. You can’t “right-click” your connection and choose Properties anymore. You can see your properties but can’t change them. This is sooooo frustrating. Might as well not even have Internet. My “solution” is to disable and enable the network adapter every time I bring up a new site, and that’s getting very old.

  • This worked!!!!!!! WOOO – HOOOOOOOO. Thanks! Solution 1 was perfect. Note: I turned firewall off because according to our PC’s settings it was blocking incoming connections.

  • None of these worked for me, maybe it’s time for a new computer. 🙁 only problem is that I need my computer for job applications.

  • My laptop had been not connecting to the wifi for months. I was tinkering either it again and I found this website. I tried fix number one and it worked! I had my doubts but it worked! Thank you so much!

  • Tried fix number 3 first but didnt’t work. Then I whent for the first one and it worked! Thanks to whoever came up with this.

  • Performing the Clean Boot (Solution 6) did the trick but I’m left wondering which Start Up service caused the problem in the first place. Many thanks though – I would never have sussed the solution without the guidance provided here.

  • Thank you, I almost flipped out because I’ve been having network issues lately, but this time it my PC…(I used the first solution with the cmd ADM

  • Thanks guys, you made an old man very happy, how simple you make things that I could not of done without going to a shop. After spending 3 hours on it, your instruction took 3 minutes that includes re-start.

  • EEEEEEEEEEK, I attempted Solution 6 after a few others had not worked and now Windows will not launch! HELP? I restarted the computer as advised and it turned on, went past initially boot and then stalled at windows launch. Please help me!

  • Much appreciated.
Thank you so much. I was frustrated with this problem from last 3 months and your 2nd solution work for me.

  • Thank you – I was going round in circles trying to get my wifi back – the first solution worked like magic – smiles all round.

  • I tried the first two resets namely …….net winsock reset AND …….net int ip reset one after the other, I did not check/test after the first reset I just typed the second line and it seems to have corrected the fault. THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH. (I will wait a couple of days to test it and turn it on and off etc. just to make sure all is well.)

  • Words cannot express my Thanx for Solution 6.
I have spent the better part of the last 48 hours looking for a solution, and this did it.

  • OMG! Solution 1 worked for me! First time I’ve ever been able to resolve an issue like this on my own. I know it was the clear directions, stunningly, actually showing the same thing as my screen, that are responsible, rather than anything I did, but thank you. I found several other “solutions” out there that didn’t work at all.

  • This is an issue that cropped up during the last few days. Solution 1 worked for me. I had to restart after each cammand for it to work. Thanks. You people rock!

  • This was so very useful after 2 hour struggling with a non- valid IP address, and a mobile phone for internet access, following a million rabbit warrens. Thank you so very much.
