How to solve HDMI Output Problems in Windows 10

Quick solution to fix various issues in Windows 10

  • Step 1: Download this PC Scan & Repair tool
  • Step 2: Click “Start Scan” to find Windows issues that could be causing HDMI issues in Windows 10
  • Step 3: Click “Start Repair” to fix all issues (requires upgrade).

Most common problem with HDMI is that audio or video is missing and in most cases that’s caused by driver incompatibility, but there few things that you can do. If there’s no sound you need to do these steps for the sound drivers, and if video is missing do these steps for video drivers.

Solution 1 – Rollback to the older driver

Open Device Manager and find the driver that is giving you trouble. Right click it and choose Rollback driver.

This will install the previous version of the driver. Sometimes, it’s better to use the default driver in order to avoid compatibility issues. To use the default driver you’ll need to uninstall the current one you’re using and the default one will install itself. To uninstall the driver, do this:

  1. Open Device manager and find the buggy driver.
  2. Right click it and choose Uninstall.uninstall display driver wind8apps
  3. Check Delete the driver software for this device and click OK.
  4. Restart your computer.

Solution 2 – Update your drivers

Sometimes all you need to fix these issues are the latest drivers. Just visit your graphic card or motherboard manufacturer’s website and download the latest drivers. We recommend this third-party tool to automatically download all the outdated drivers on your PC.

If you’re using a laptop, maybe it’s better to download drivers from the laptop manufacturer instead. We also have to mention that in certain cases old drivers can work better, so if the latest drivers aren’t working for you, follow the steps from previous solution to uninstall them and download older version of the drivers.

Solution 3 – Install drivers in compatibility mode

Windows 10 still has compatibility issues with drivers, so sometimes it’s best that you install them in compatibility mode.

  1. Right click the driver setup file and choose Properties.
  2. Then go to Compatibility tab.
  3. Check Run this program in compatibility mode and choose Windows 7 from the list.
  4. Click Apply and OK.
  5. Run the setup file.

Solution 4 – Set your secondary display

If you’re using HDMI to connect a second display try setting it over at NVIDIA Control Panel, or if you use AMD graphics use its control Panel instead. The process is the same for both cards.

  1. Open Nvidia Control Panel.
  2. Go to Set up multiple displays.
  3. If your HDMI connected display isn’t showing try checking and unchecking the other ones on the list.

This sounds like an obscure solution, but some users have reported that it has helped them to enable their HDMI display.

have your tv turned on and set to pc. have hdmi cable hooked to tv and pc. turn on your pc and give it a bit to start and it should go straight to tv disply…at least mine did. I could not get Netflix to play right so I switched back to Windows 7 and have all monitors detected with full picture controls!!!

Everything was fine until I upgrade to windows 10!!!

    • honda450

Yeah, I was lucky to be able to get back to Windows 7. I use my laptop with VGA hook up to my 39 inch tv to watch netflix and youtube….could not believe Windows 10 would not detect TV. If I plugged in VGA and turned computer on,it would go straight to tv so I thought that was good enough but then my Netflix only had two large black stripes and I could not adjust resolution or figure a way to have full screen Netflix. Only took about 10 minuts to switch back to Windows 7 so I got lucky. Should not try fixing something that aint broken!!!

I constantly have issues, and have done all suggested steps above, but it only works for a little while, then stops working again. I found the quickest way to get it working is to go to Device Manager, sound devices, and disable then re-enable to AMD device. It’s a pain, and I have to do it nearly daily, but I haven’t found a long-term solution yet and this is the quickest short term solution.

I tried the rollback idea and that fixed my problem. I have a amd display adapter and they updated in September 2016, I rolled back to the November 2015 update and it’s now working fine.

i’ve tried the compatibility way and when i run the setup file od driver it say’s this computer doesn’t meet the minimum requirements for installing this device. and yet it’s allready installed wtf?

    Forget about it~!
If You want to use HDMI go back to windows 8.1. this is just another attempt at scamming You out of Your money….thinking You’re going to fix this, without a computer geek charging a fortune to do what, is going to take, You an hour to do, at most~!
Get rid of Windows 10 it’s a farce; it’s no improvement over, 8.1, but at least the HDMI hookup worked~!
