Firefox Nightly suppports the Mica effect natively on Windows 11, and here's how you can enable it

Good news for Firefox users: Firefox Nightly now supports the Mica transparency effect natively on Windows 11, and thanks to some quick commands, you can easily enable it on your Windows devices.

The Mica transparency effect has been a selling point for many browsers, including Edge and Chrome, but Mozilla Firefox hasn’t officially supported it. You can enable it in Windows 11, sure, but you’ll need to download and install some GitHub packs first.

Either way, according to this Reddit user, Firefox Nightly, a Beta Channel of the Firefox browser—think Dev Edge, but for Firefox—now natively supports the Mica effect, and you can enable it quickly by turning on three commands.

After turning them on, you’ll only need to restart the browser, and the effect will occur.

How to turn the Mica effect on in Firefox Nightly in Windows 11

1. Download and install Firefox Nightly if you haven’t already done so.
2. Open about: config, and click on Accept the Risk and Continue.
3. Type in widget.windows.mica and change it from false to true.
4. Repeat the same process with browser.theme.native-theme and browser.tabs.allow_transparent_browser.
5. Restart your browser.

You should have the Mica effect automatically if you’ve set Firefox Nightly on Auto.

This enhancement is already on Firefox Nightly and will be released on the main Firefox channel in the following weeks.

The Reddit user also posted a code for userChrome.css, which you can use to customize your Firefox experience further.
